Privacy

The short version: the only personal data this site holds is an email address, and only if you typed one in.

What is collected

If you subscribe to the newsletter, this site stores the email address you give it, the name you optionally give it, the date you subscribed, and which page you subscribed from. That is the complete list.

Nothing else on the site collects anything about you. There is no analytics script, no advertising network, no social embeds, and no third-party tracker of any kind. The fonts are served from this domain rather than from Google, so loading a page does not tell Google that you did.

Cookies

The public site sets no cookies. Your light/dark preference is kept in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device and is never sent to the server.

One cookie exists, and only for the site's author: a session cookie set after signing in to the admin area. If you are reading this, it does not apply to you.

Where your email is kept

In this site's own database (Google Cloud Firestore), reachable only by the site's server. It is not sold, rented, shared, or handed to a mailing-list company. It is used for one thing: sending you an email when there is a new essay.

Hosting logs

Pages are served by Vercel, which keeps short-lived operational logs of requests — the sort of thing every web server records, including IP address and browser type. These are Vercel's, are retained briefly, and are not used to build any profile of you.

Unsubscribing and deletion

Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email me and ask for your address to be deleted outright rather than just marked inactive, and it will be.

Changes

If this ever changes in a way that matters, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
